Two Men Charged In Hartford Home Invasion

May 5, 2008, 12:13 PM EDT

Two suspects in a home invasion on Vine Street in Hartford Sunday are facing numerous criminal charges including, burglary, threatening and unlawful restraint.

Craig James, 28, of Hartford and Kevin Hazel, 32, of West Hartford are scheduled to be arraigned this morning at Superior Court in Hartford.

Each man is being held on $750,000.

They face two counts each of first-degree reckless endangerment, first-degree threatening, first-degree unlawful restraint, first-degree burglary and risk of injury to a minor. They are also charged with carrying a pistol without a permit and criminal possession of a firearm.

Hartford police evacuated the three-story apartment building at 95 Vine Street Sunday afternoon after James and Hazel allegedly forced their way into a unit.

No one was injured during the 2 ½ -hour incident, but police classified it as a "high-risk situation" and a "home invasion."

James and Hazel were in the apartment with the victims when members of the Hartford Emergency Response Team gained entry, police said. They were taken into custody without incident, police said. A gun was recovered from the apartment.

Police said Sunday that they did not know the relationship between the intruders and victims.
