Norwalk Officers Injured Helping Man Who Drank Pesticide
May 6, 2008, 8:53 AM EDT

NORWALK, Conn. (AP)- Norwalk fire officials say two city police officers have been injured after responding to a report of a man who drank an insecticide.

The two officers apparently got sick after inhaling the fumes.

Fire officials say the insecticide contained the toxic substance malathion and the incident early Tuesday touched off a hazardous material response from the state and local officials.

The incident was reported at a home on Crown Avenue and prompted officials to block off streets in the area of the home.

Officials say one person was taken to Norwalk Hospital for treatment and the emergency room at the hospital was shut down because of the hazardous material.

The emergency room was reopened a few hours later.
