Connecticut Top Judge Outlines Changes For Courthouses

May 8, 2008, 11:54 AM EDT

GREENWICH, Conn. (AP) - Connecticut's chief justice says she plans to lift a ban on camera phones in state courthouses.

The move was recommended by the state's Public Services and Trust Commission as part of its strategic plan to improve public service in the Judicial Branch.

Chief Justice Chase Rogers, who commissioned the report last year, told a gathering of lawyers in Greenwich Wednesday that she plans to implement 200 to 300 of the group's recommendations.

Rogers says court marshals checked in 290,000 camera phones carried by the court house visitors last year, evidence that the ban is not practical.
