Shelly Sindland is the senior reporter, political correspondent and host of Beyond the Headlines at Fox 61.

The Connecticut native joined The Fox 61 news team in 1995. It had always been her dream to work back in her home state. Shelly grew up in a small, rural, Northwestern Town where her father has been The Boy Scout Leader for more than 40 years and her five young nephews and nieces still live.

Throughout her years at Fox 61, Sindland has covered some big stories. Most recently, she was one of only five reporters and the only woman picked to witness New England's first execution in 45 years. While it was a tough assignment, Sindland knew if The State of Connecticut was going to execute someone then it was important for the people of Connecticut to know what was going on behind closed prison doors.

Sindland also covered former Governor John Rowland's plea agreement with Federal Prosecutors for corruption and his prison sentencing.

In 2003, Sindland covered Former Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim's Federal Corruption Trial that ultimately landed her a continuing-coverage award by The Associated Press. In 1997, Sindland was also honored for her series from Chernobyl, Ukraine. She traveled there with a group of local humanitarians. Sindland spent time in "The Dead Zone", saw deformed babies in an Orphanage and made it as far as the Chernobyl Plant's gate but then left after being threatened to be arrested. In 1996, Sindland also covered the tragic airplane crash of TWA Flight 800 off Long Island Sound.

During her career, Shelly has interviewed First Lady Laura Bush, President Bill Clinton, Vice President Al Gore, Vice President Dick Cheney, Barbara Bush, Hillary Rodham Clinton, as well as the former Queen of Jordan. For a few years, Sindland was also the consumer reporter at Fox 61.

You may have also heard Shelly on the radio. She occasionally co-hosts with Colin McEnroe afternoons on WTIC 1080-AM. Besides talk radio, her other pastimes are working on her house and hanging out with her "movie star" daughter Sadie and their three cats.

Shelly loves reporting the news, "Being a reporter is like going to college everyday, you learn so much. Every day is different." Shelly says. She also says every reporter has defining moments in her or his career, her defining moments: her trip to Chernobyl and the execution of Michael Ross.

Before coming to Fox 61, Shelly worked in television stations in Hagerstown, Md. and Parkersburg, W. Va.

She graduated from Seton Hall University with a degree in communications/journalism. She played Big East Volleyball and also played volleyball and basketball in high school.
