East Haven, Branford —
Scenic Driving Tour from Connecticut River Valley & Shoreline Visitors Council
Take a tour of the state's gorgeous coast by car, trolley and boat! Begin in East Haven at The Shore Line Trolley Museum which features an incredibly unique collection of authentic street cars dating back to the early 1900's. This summer is a perfect time to visit, as the Branford Electric Railway celebrates it's 104th birthday in July! The trolley ride allows visitors to appreciate intricate craftsmanship inside the cars and the beautiful salt marshes outside. Kids and adults alike get a huge kick out of this outing!
From the museum, take scenic Route 146 into Branford. Branch off onto Leetes Island Road in Stony Creek and head towards the water! Captain Dave Kusterer offers relaxing boat trips around the Thimble Islands, pure Connecticut gems! There are 365 charted rocks and islands in a five square mile radius. Eighteen of those are inhabited. Captain Dave is the perfect tour guide. Five generations of Kusterers have summered on one of the islands. Get ready for some stories about Captain Kidd and his hidden treasure!
