Haight Vineyard
Like a fine wine, CT's first vineyard just gets better with age
Haight Vineyard is a part of Connecticut's wine trail. Eight Vineyards in all throughout the countryside. Haight was the state's first. You'll see acres of well kept vines - eight varieties in all. Late summer is the best time to visit as the harvest happens in the middle of September. It's amazing to see healthy vines of grapes ready to be pressed to make some of Connecticut's best wines. You can take your time wandering through the rows of vines. There are organized tours through the winery and complimentary wine tasting every hour. If you're lucky you'll meet up with Sherman Haight (owner and operator). He started as a cattle and sheep farmer and jumpstarted his vineyard after reading one article in the Wall Street Journal. Mr. Haight is always at the vineyard and has all the knowledge and storytelling ability to keep you fascinated in his establishment! By the way, try their Champagne Garlic Mustard!!!
Haight Vineyard also offers a wine train. $19.95 advanced registration (48 hours advance required). $24.95 walk-on. $14.95 per child four to twelve. Right now the wine train is booked solid! Call ahead is advisable!!!
