Fly Fishing
Grab a line and a pole

Fly Fishing West Cornwall, CT 06796 203-544-7700

The rivers of Connecticut are wonderful fishing holes - according to the experts. A full day of flyfishing with a guide is a great way to go if you have a handle on the basics of the sport. Call ahead to check on availability and make arrangements.

Most guides will work with you through the rivers for the full day. Your flyfishing gear: waders, rods and lures, should be your own, but some places do offer to rent materials. Classes are usually offered in the spring.

Our trip through the Housatonic River (both upstream and downstream of the covered bridge in West Cornwall) was a full day of standing in the river. However, the best times for flyfishing are either early in the morning - before the heat - or at dusk.

Be warned - it's not a sport for an impatient person! Flyfishing is more about timing and finesse than spin fishing. Be prepared to come home empty-handed, that way you're pleasantly surprised when you catch something!

Cost for a guided trip:
Freshwater (8 hours) - $200
Saltwater (8 hours) - $150
