Candlewood Lake
Sail, Jet Ski -- Even Fish -- at Candlewood Lake!
Sarah Cody, Fox 61 Reporter
Brookfield —
Candlewood Lake is the largest lake in Connecticut, encompassing 5420 acres with over sixty miles of shoreline.
Parts of New Milford, Danbury, Brookfield and New Fairfield border the lake which is about 11 miles long and 2 miles wide at its widest point.
The manmade lake was completed in 1929 by the power company. As well as being surrounded by beautiful homes and marinas, there's a world underneath the water's surface. Divers are able to spot chimneys, church steeples and homes -- evidence of the area before Candlewood existed.
Now, the lake is a haven for boating, fishing and water sports. Jet skiing and wake boarding have become increasingly popular.
State Parks dot the coast along the lake. Many visitors rent Pontoon Boats for the day and explore various coves. Be certain you're a strong swimmer and don't forget the sunscreen!
