Antique Alley
A Shopper's Haven in the Berkshires!
Sarah Cody, Reporter
Sheffield, MA —
A short drive to Western Massachusetts results in a long stretch of shopping! The quaint town of Sheffield is becoming known for "Antique Alley," a strip of roadway that hosts more than 30 specialty stores.
A treasure seeker can find almost anything, like rocking horses and painted armoires at "Cupboards and Roses." While this unique antique boutique, which was just mentioned in Architectural Digest, features items from overseas, "Good and Hutchinson & Associates, Inc." offers local finds. David Good was the first merchant in the area when he opened his store 55 years ago. Foot traffic is welcome most places but an appointment is necessary at "Howard S. Mott, Inc." The well known establishment offers rare books and autographs from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries.
The area, however, offers much more than shopping. Wonderful restaurants abound and Mother Nature offers quite a show! Mountains, lakes and hiking trails are highlighted by gorgeous vistas.
Enjoy the natural gems because the antiques are pricey! Swedish clocks and eighteenth century china don't come cheap, but many say a jaunt to the beautiful Berkishires is well worth the price!
