Hiking Treasures in Southwestern Connecticut
Taking It All In Stride!
Sarah Cody, Reporter
Redding, Wilton —
If you're in the mood to appreciate Mother Nature by foot, Southwestern Connecticut is the place for you!
Years ago, in an effort to elude developers, the town of Redding acquired more than 300 acres of forest land. Now, the Saugatuck Falls hiking area sports a babbling brook, a scenic meadow and plenty of trails for wayward walkers! Wildlife, such as owls, hawk and deer, live in the open space and sometimes make themselves visible to the visitors.
Nearby, a short hike brings you to Great Ledge, which overlooks a reservoir. This beautiful site is the perfect place for a breather!
Devil's Den in Weston is just a hop, skip and jump away! This hiking haven stretches more than 1700 acres and features ponds, rock overhangs and even bear print marks on some of the rocks.
So, grab your walking shoes and take it all in stride!
*No biking!
*You can buy a Trail Book at the Redding Library or Town Hall for $10.00.
