Sharon Audubon Center
Conserving and Restoring Natural Ecosystems

The Sharon Audubon Center is a nature center and wildlife sanctuary owned and operated by the National Audubon Society. The nature center is located in the northwest corner of Connecticut, in the town of Sharon. The Sharon Audubon Center has over eleven miles of scenic hiking trails, and includes 758 acres of mixed forest, meadows, wetlands, ponds and streams. The mission of the National Audubon Society is to conserve and restore natural ecosystems focusing on birds, other wildlife, and their habitats for the benefit of the Earth's biological diversity and humanity. The Sharon Audubon Center strives to meet this mission through education, conservation and environmental research to encourage the responsible usage and stewardship of natural lands. The Sharon Audubon Center offers educational programs for all ages, a seasonal newsletter, nature programs, wildlife rehabilitation, research, live animal exhibits, a children's adventure center, a nature store, and a natural history library.

Hours: The Center's 11 miles of trails are open daily from dawn to dusk. The exhibit room and nature store are open Monday through Saturday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, and Sundays from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

Admission: The Visitors Center and Nature Store are free. Trails and most programs are: Adult--$3.00 Seniors--$1.50 Children--$1.50 Free for members of National Audubon Society and "Friends" of the Sharon Audubon Center.

Directions: From the east: Coming from the Hartford area, take Route 202 west to Torrington. Exit off of 202 onto Route 4 in Torrington. Head west on 4 through Goshen and Cornwall. Follow signs for Sharon. The center is 7.3 miles past the Housatonic Bridge on the left-hand side of the road. Look for Sharon Audubon signs on the right.

From the north: Travel south on Route 7 across the CT/MA state line. Continue on 7 through Canaan, Falls Village and West Cornwall. At the "T" intersection with Route 4, turn right onto 4 heading towards Sharon. Stay on this road for 7.3 miles. The Center will be on the left; look for the signs.

From the south: Coming from Danbury, travel up Route 7 towards Kent. Stay on 7 until you pass over the Housatonic River Bridge. There is a fork in the road with Route 4 heading up hill towards Sharon. Stay on 4 for 7.3 miles after this intersection. The Center will be on the left; look for the signs.
