
The United Way 'Service To Community' Award
The goal of this award is to encourage students to seek out and report on good works performed by an individual or group that change lives or make our community a better place to live.
HIGH SCHOOL DIVISON

MIDDLE SCHOOL DIVISION
1ST PLACE $1000
The United Way of the Capital Area Service to Community Award is given for the best news stories in each division that promote community service by students. Schools within the 40-town Hartford Capital Area are eligible for the award. (Please see list of towns below.)
United Way of the Capital Area invests donor gifts of time and money in programs and services that change lives and improve conditions in the 40-town Capital Area. The goal of this award is to encourage students to seek out and report on good works performed by an individual or group (especially young people) that change lives or make our community a better place to live. Special consideration is shown to stories featuring volunteers, basic human needs (food, clothing, shelter, counseling, etc.) or health issues.
The production quality of the news story is also considered when judging this award.
*This award has restrictions. Only students who attend schools in the 40-town service area of United Way of the Capital Area are eligible to participate in this award category.
