New Milford High School
April 26, 2008

School: New Milford High School
Town: New Milford
Slug: Recycled Oil
Status: Re-Submit
Length: 50

DELIVERY: There seemed to be two reporters. On camera there was a female and the voiceover was a male voice. Made the story feel disjointed.

INTERVIEWS: Good person to interview.

ORIGINALITY: Excellent. Great topic.

WRITING: Needs to be re-written. Your story should open with the strongest video and writing that will grab the viewer's attention. There is no need to have the reporter on camera when asking the interview questions. The lead-in to the interview should set up the answer. Find the hook of the story and then answer who, what, where, when, why and how.

VIDEO: Some good shots. Need a variety though. Some shots of the garage doing oil change on a car and taking oil out would benefit the story.

AUDIO: Consistant levels.

EDITING: Needs more b-roll to support the story.

OVERALL: Look at some of the other student news packages or packages on our newscast. It will help you get a better idea of the flow of a story.

Date: March 14, 2008
School: New Milford High School
Town: New Milford
Slug: "Wetlands"
Status: Broadcast
Length: 50

DELIVERY: Good pace. Nice location for the stand up.

INTERVIEWS: Good job finding a person of authority on the topic. Informative sound bite.

ORIGINALITY: Good conservation story.

WRITING: The statement that wetlands should be regulated needs to be attributed. You can say "many people believe..." or if you have a specific source such you can say "so and so feels…". Interesting topic. Would have like to have heard more about steps being taken to preserve the local wetlands. What are the regulations that Connecticut has on wetlands?

VIDEO: Nice footage. The sound bite mentioned the animals and it would be nice to see some. There was a lot of camera movement. Make sure there is a purpose. The shot moving along the river was nice because it followed to the end. Some shots didn't need the movement.

AUDIO: Good levels.

EDITING: Nice variety of shots.

OVERALL: Good topic. Work on the writing. Attribute opinion statements and remember to answer who, what, where, why, when and how of the story. This story was missing the how answers.
