DELIVERY: Good job. Very energetic and good location for stand up.

INTERVIEWS: The sound bite was ok but it would even better if it was able to add some emotion to the story. There was too much profile in the interview shots. The reporter should be standing just behind and to the side of the camera so that the interviewee is forced to look in the right direction.

ORIGINALITY: Good choice of material.

WRITING: Good job. Nice job staying focused and clear. Nice job adding facts and showing the savings.

VIDEO: Lots of great video. Good job showing a variety of shots. A lot of action and mix of things. Keep in mind the location of the sun. There were shadows on the reporters face. Either move her to avoid the shadows or soften the shadows. The easiest way to fix would be by holding a large shiny mirror or white cardboard toward the reporter. That would reflects light to remove shadows.

AUDIO: No issues.

EDITING: Nice job matching up the video and audio to tell an interesting story.

OVERALL: Great job and well executed.

------------- 2005-2006 Evaluations

Town: Norwich
Slug: Climbing To The Top
Status: Broadcast
Length: 50

DELIVERY: Very good. Easy to understand. Nice location for stand up. There is no need to walk during your stand-up unless you are showing the relationship from one space to another IE: "during the morning commute this car fell into this 6 foot deep pothole" and the car and pothole are placed twenty feet apart.

INTERVIEWS: Great sound bite. Good enthusiasm from the instructor. It would have been great to hear from one of the students who participated.

ORIGINALITY: Very good.

WRITING: Good. Mention the name of the location in the voiceover. Work on writing into the interviews. Don't just say so and so explains.

VIDEO: Nice shots. Nice job showing events to participate in. Good variety.

AUDIO: Good levels. You mention scream and laughing could be heard. Let's hear it. Natural sound of someone using the course would have really added to the story.

EDITING: Nice work. Good job showing lots of shots as you are describing the place. Use the strongest video right at the top to catch viewer's attention.

OVERALL: Good work.

2004-2005 Evaluations

Town: Norwich
Slug: Safety on Wheels
Status: Broadcast
Length: 49.84

DELIVERY: Good delivery. Nice job giving a brief summary before signing off.

INTERVIEWS: Good interview. Good source. It definitely added to the story. Remember when introducing an interview not to say "Jane explains…" A better introduction would have been "Jane tells us how these machines work". Either paraphrase or add info to the piece when you are writing into your interview.

ORIGINALITY: Newsworthy and effects the whole state.

WRITING: Good job. Great use of facts and nice job covering the questions. Some other things that would have added to the story: Is this a new robot? When did it first come out? It is used throughout Connecticut or just in one town or county?

VIDEO: Great shots of the robot and how to control it. Nice variety. Great framing on your interview.

AUDIO: Good levels throughout. It would have been great to hear some sounds from the robot.

EDITING: Great job.

OVERALL: Very well done.

Status: Broadcast
Length: 49.93

DELIVERY: Good pace and clear delivery. Very nice opening statement.

INTERVIEWS: Good interviews! They added information regarding the robots and who the technology may help. It would have been nice to hear from the teacher or person in charge of the program as well.

ORIGINALITY: Very interesting. Unique idea

WRITING: Interesting writing. Good job explaining the three different segments of the program and what each does. Suggestion: You could have mentioned more about the competition if that is what you wanted to focus to be. If you wanted the focus to be on the robots themselves, you could have left out the mention of the competition in the beginning. We don't really find out what the technology is used for until the end. It may improve flow to talk about that first.

VIDEO: Very good shots of the robots in action and showing what they can do. Nice video of classroom.

AUDIO: Good levels.

EDITING: Nice job. Flowed well and the script and video were matched up nicely. The good editing made for smooth transitions.

OVERALL: Unique story idea. Lots of good images. Interesting writing and information. It would improve the flow of story if you keep in mind your focus from the beginning.
