Convent of the Sacred Heart
Evaluations for 2002-2003
Date: 7/2/03
School: Convent of the Sacred Heart
Town: Greenwich
Slug: September 11th
Status: Broadcast
Length: :50
DELIVERY: Good delivery. Nice pacing. Nice job placing your stand-up in the midst of the story IE; the symbol of the tree was a nice wrap-up to your piece.
INTERVIEWS: Good choices on your interview subjects. Nice sound bites used to move your story forward.
ORIGINALITY: good
WRITING: Please don't use supers on your piece. You have done a nice job introducing each interview with your script. We will end up covering the supers with our Student News wrappers. Also, it is good practice in news writing to learn how to write into and out of a sound bite.
VIDEO: Good variation of images used. Be careful with 'borrowed' footage. We will allow the broadcast images of the national ceremony because it did not include another stations or networks bug on the screen and it was on screen for only a second. If you use any footage over a couple of seconds in length from another source you will need to obtain written permission from that source.
AUDIO: Good consistent levels.
EDITING: good job putting all your elements together.
OVERALL: Welcome to Fox 61 and WB 20 Student News. We look forward to more stories from your school.

Date:7/2/03
School: Convent of the Sacred Heart
Town: Greenwich
Slug: "Monarch Watch"
Status: Re-submit
Length: :48
DELIVERY: This was a little fast. Try smiling through out your voice-over. This is an old radio trick to add energy to your voice-over without adding speed. Currently, it is a little hard to understand due to the speed.
INTERVIEWS: Good choices on your interviews and sound bites.
ORIGINALITY: This was an interesting story with statewide appeal. Nice job
WRITING: Please don't rely on supers to inform the viewer of your interviews. We are going to need to cover the supers with our wrapper. Get in the habit of introducing your sound bites in your writing. See page 12 of the "How To Manual" for suggestions.
VIDEO: Good b-roll supporting your premise.
AUDIO: Good
EDITING: See writing and overall.
OVERALL: This needs to be exactly :50 seconds from the beginning of the voice-over to the end of the stand-up with an additional :5 second pad at both ends. We use a :10 wrapper on each story and have them scheduled in a 1-minute time slot so we can not have the story come in under or over the required time limit. Also, please read page 19 of the "How To Manual" for the correct SIG-out needed for the story. Thanks. Please give this one more run in editing and re-submit.
