Date posted: January 26, 2005
School: Bassick High School
Town: Bridgeport
Slug: "Sean Sullivan Day"
Status: Re-submit
Length: 45

DELIVERY: Good start, clear and good pace, but it got to fast at the end.

INTERVIEWS: Write into your interview. We do not know who the women being interviewed was. Also, it would have been great to get an interview from Sean Sullivan.

ORIGINALITY: Good.

WRITING: You started off your piece great. Remember in your voiceover you need to tell us what the story is about. Tell us what Captain Sullivan is doing back at the school? What is he getting or giving at the ceremony? How long has he been in the Navy? How did the school react to his visit? Find the "hook" of the story and write to it. Answer who, what, where, when, why and how.

VIDEO: Good shots.

AUDIO: Good levels.

EDITING: Work on your writing and your editing will come together.

OVERALL: Good first try. We suggest re-writing your piece. Work on the writing and your story will start to come together. Tell us what Captain Sullivan is in town for, is he donating something to the school or accepting an award. Let us know what is newsworthy about his arrival. When you are writing , write into your interview and then roll some of the good shots you have. Slow down on the stand up, and if you end the story with a stand up the reporter must summarize the story in some way, not just tag out the story. Remember to match your video to your voiceover. Please resubmit and we would love to get this story on the air.
