Slug: Hamden Video Arts Team Floats Into Connecticut Homes
Status: Broadcast
Length: 50
DELIVERY: Good. Nice pace and easy to follow. Good energy.
INTERVIEWS: There were no interviews. It would have added to the story to have an interview with one of the students who is going to be on TV. Someone at the public TV station would also have been a great interview.
ORIGINALITY: Unique story.
WRITING: Why are they going to be on TV? Make sure you answer all the questions: who, what, where, why, when, and how. Write to the hook. Try not to be repetitive in the writing and interviews.
VIDEO: Good. Nice variety of shots. Creative positioning for the stand up. The stand up was a bit out of focus at first. Be sure all shots are in focus.
AUDIO: Nice use of natural sound.
EDITING: Nice job going from the voiceover to the clips of the students. Good flow.
OVERALL: Creative story. Next time work on the writing and incorporate interviews. The report should not be a subject in the story. The reporter should be objective and is not usually part of the story.

DELIVERY: Good. Nice job dressing up for your stand up. Your stand up should have some wrap up info in it if you are using it to end the story. Don't just sign off.
INTERVIEWS: Good choices. Good sound bites. Nice job writing into the second interview.
ORIGINALITY: Good.
WRITING: Very good. Nice job telling the story.
VIDEO: Nice selection. There seemed to be an unfocused shots in some of the footage. Make sure every shot you use is in focus.
AUDIO: Good levels but there seemed to be a crackling in the audio.
EDITING: Be sure to cover a cut from a shot to the same shot. Don't use the same piece of video back to back. Switch up the shots. Nice job using establishing shots, but use another piece of footage in the middle before the sound bite. Do not use wipes or dissolves. News stories should use straight cuts. There were two editing glitches. Make crisp cuts. If you are editing non-linear leave enough frames of video.
OVERALL: Re-edit video and re-submit. Add more shots to cover the cut from the same shot.

DELIVERY: Very good. Nice energy and pace.
INTERVIEWS: Good choices and good sound bites. They really added to the story.
ORIGINALITY: Good.
WRITING: Very nice job. Good work covering the questions and following up with the progress. Nice job writing into the interviews. You should say, Principal, (first name) Pepa. No need to say Mr. as well as principal.
VIDEO: Great job! Good shots. Nice selection of footage.
AUDIO: Great job using natural sound at the event. Good levels. Using the natural sound at the beginning really caught our attention.
EDITING: Great job rolling footage over the interviews after the establishing shots. Great job matching up the footage with the script. One glitch and one jump cut. Watch the detail when editing.
OVERALL: Very nice job!

DELIVERY: Good job.
INTERVIEWS: Interview the organizers and some of the students. Those kinds of bites would have supported the story.
ORIGINALITY: Newsworthy.
WRITING: Good. Nice job telling the story. Be careful of editorial. You said, "the C02 drag race was popular." Either attribute it to the students or get that information from a sound bite.
VIDEO: Good shots, but some were out of focus. Always use a tripod. Good action shots.
AUDIO: Good use of natural sound. Use a microphone on your stand up.
EDITING: Good job showing the drag racing at the top with the natural sound. Really brought us into the story. Some of the cuts were too quick.
OVERALL: Work on adding interviews and work on video.
