HARTFORD —
Children and their parents can beat winter's "cabin fever" with rows and rows of games, amusement and pony rides, exciting booths and scores of things to do and see under one roof at the "Fox 61 Family Fund Festival for Kids". On Saturday, February 10 and Sunday, February 11 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Connecticut Expo Center in Hartford, Conn. will take on an indoor carnival atmosphere with 92,000 square feet of fun for children of all ages. Attendees will discover a wide array of hands-on activities, plus live entertainment including magicians and dancing, the latest products and services for kids such as clothing and child care centers, educational booths and, of course, refreshments that kids love.
"The Fox 61 Family Fund Festival for Kids is a wonderful opportunity for children and their parents to take an entertaining break from the New England winter and help a terrific cause at the same time," explains Kristie Gonsalves Harrington of North East Expos, Inc., the organizer of the event. A portion of the proceeds benefits the Fox 61 Family Fund, a fund of the McCormick Tribune Foundation. The Fox 61 Family Fund is dedicated to supporting programs that have a long-term, positive impact on children and youth and that strengthen Connecticut's families.
The two-day festival will feature amusement rides, stage shows, carnival-style games with prizes, and hands-on activities for children of all ages, from carousels to magicians to rock climbing. There will be 12 amusement rides for $2 each or $15 for a wrist band for unlimited rides on the same day – cash only. Pony rides are $2 each and tickets must be purchased individually.
Special events include Kidsville Kuckoo Revue concerts, martial arts demonstrations, and Mohegan Cultural Outreach Programs - Tribal History, Storytelling, Friendship Dances, Singing & Dancing. An AMBER Alert Child ID Program, sponsored by the Stonington Rotary Club, will present one free wallet-sized laminated card with your child's photo, a unique AMBER ID number and essential information about the youngster (www.amberchildid.org). Families are invited to bring a camera and meet life-size Star Wars characters, presented by the Connecticut Garrison of the 501st Legion. In addition, the Hartford Fire Department will host its Smoke House, which enables children to practice how to escape a fire in a realistic home situation.
The Fox 61 Family Fund Festival for Kids is sponsored by Fox 61, Haymond Law Firm, CBS Radio, Connecticut Parent magazine, and Kidtivity.com.
