Maintenance Engineer

DEPARTMENT: Engineering

REPORTS TO: Assistant Chief Engineer

ROLE: Acts as a Maintenance Engineer for WTIC/WTXX – TV with primary responsibility for all maintenance activities within the technical facility.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
· To ensure that the technical plant is operating at peak efficiency at all times, that all redundant systems are operational, and that both stations can expect to be on the air 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, except during a scheduled down time.
· To repair, align, and calibrate all of the VTR's, switchers, routers, monitors, waveform monitors, vectorscopes, satellite receivers, cameras, tape robotics, disk-based broadcast equipment, computer operated broadcast equipment, and other electronic equipment. Perform routine diagnostics on equipment so that it remains in peak performance.
· To repair and align field and studio cameras. Operate the camera control console, as called for.
· To ensure that parts are requested so that equipment repairs are made as soon as possible.
· Make the Manager, Engineering staff, Assistant Chief Engineer, and Director of Engineering aware of any maintenance problems that may affect the operation of the technical plant.
· To understand intra-plant timing requirements of a broadcast technical plant: including router re-entry: switcher timing relationships to a routed source; the causes of line time delays and the solution(s) for them; and the causes of field or frame delays and the solution(s) for them.
· To install new equipment, run and terminate cables, and document the installation using a wirelist database and CAD program.
· Be able to answer questions by staff about the correct operation of all broadcast equipment located within the technical plant.


REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
· AS ET or certificate from an electronics technical school preferred.
· FCC license or SBE certification desired.
· 2-5 years of studio broadcast TV electronic repair experience.
· Ability to troubleshoot electronic problems to component level.
· Experience with RF transmission systems preferred.
· Knowledge of computer information and telephone systems preferred.
· Ability to use Auto Cad preferable.
